U.S. election: McConnell silent as Pelosi expresses optimism amid vote count

U.S. Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell on Friday spoke about the ongoing vote count taking place in the presidential election that has Joe Biden and Donald Trump competing for the few remaining uncalled states.

Pelosi spoke Friday as the vote count in the election continues, saying it was a "happy day" and that Democratic nominee Joe Biden is a "unifier." She added she was pleased with the outcome "that is imminent." It should be noted a winner had not been declared in the presidential race as of Friday at 12:30 p.m.

McConnell said he put out a statement on Twitter on his thoughts, and would not discuss the vote count further. In his Twitter statement, McConnell said every legal vote should be counted, while "illegally submitted ballots" must not.
