Bird photography - Cranes at Trandansen, Sweden
#birdphotography #wildlifephotograpy
So I finally got out with my camera. It has been three month since I did any photography. In this episode I head out to Trandansen in Sweden to photograph common Cranes (Grus grus) at their annual gathering. They are heading up north to raise new chicks and have been gathering here at Trandansen for many years. Initially they found left over potatoes but nowadays corn is put out to feed as many as possible. The days I was there it was about 15 000 cranes on the location. Apart from feeding the cranes that are singles will try to find a partner to bond with. So when one look out over fields with the thousands of cranes, one can see how male cranes try to attract the female cranes in different ways. Bobbing their head, jumping up and down, throwing grass in the air and of course trumpet out loud. When a female is interested she will try to mimic the male and if they will become a pair they will stick to each other for life.
