New Make With Mouse theme & Kappa (Japanese water sprite) inspired makeup!

Makeup tutorial, mythology lesson and the new make with mouse theme?? Don't say I don't spoil you. Today I'm talking about Kappa, creepy little water goblins that love grabbing cucumbers and fighting, well, everyone. Let's go.

Transcript:
River sprites known as ‘kappa’ meaning ‘water child’ are a creature from traditional japanese folklore. Kappa live in the waters that run through villages, and these water genies are either cruel or friendly depending on the region. They are generally always depicted as diminutive figures the height of a three to four year old child. They are human shaped but amphibious, with green, scaly frog skin, webbed feet and hands and a turtle’s shell on their backs. Their little monkey faces are sometimes depicted with beak-like mouths, and on their heads they have wild shaggy hair that encircles a ditch in their skulls that forms a bowl containing water. This is their life water, so if that water spills from their bowl the kappa will lose all their power.

In some regions, such as Tsugaru, kappa are worshipped as Kami. Kami are the deities of the Shinto religion, but rather than the omnipotent god of the christian world, they are the spirits of venerated ancestors that have died and continue to watch over the landscape and in doing so protect the livelihoods of their descendants. The people in turn show their thanks and respect with yearly ceremonies that correspond with significant events in the agricultural calendar.

In the cruellest tales of kappa they are held responsible for the unfortunate deaths of children who drown in their rivers - due in some regions to the ‘kappas promise’ - which is to claim a certain number of villagers or animals per year if they bathe in the river. Once dragged away the kappas, in a vampiric turn, are said to drink the blood of their victims.

Generally however, Kappas have a proclivity for mischief and love challenging humans to fight in single combat. Once challenged, the human is unable to reject the call to arms. However, despite their pugilistic nature, kappas are extremely polite. If their challenger bows his head, the kappa will return the gesture - causing their water bowl to spill out, reducing them to a feeble state. It’s wise to avoid fighting the kappa, as they are experts in aiki-jutsu, a martial art focused on joint manipulation to incapacitate the opponent, and were said to have passed this skill to humans.

Another great way of subduing a kappa is to bribe them with a cucumber, which is their absolute favourite food. They are often depicted holding or riding around on cucumbers or squashes - really any cucurbit will do - and are so associated with these treats that a certain type of sushi with a cucumber rolled inside is known as a kappa-maki.
