Stromboli Night with thunderstorm and massive eruption 19th July 2020

For 5 or 6 days I have tried to photograph and film the Comet Neowise rising early in the morning in the night sky next to Stromboli, here in the Aeolian Islands. Alas it has always been cloudy on the horizon all week, so sadly I haven't managed to capture it as I'd planned with the magical combination of comet and erupting crater...and now from the only possible viewpoint on neighbouring Panarea it is no longer visible next to Stromboli. I have however in recompense captured some terrific distant thunderstorms. But this day, the 19th July, I also photographed the biggest eruption of Stromboli I have ever seen in 50 years of looking at this sublime and awe inspiring volcano. See it here, with the massive cloud of dust, smoke and ash that was ejected well over a mile up into the pre-dawn sky. The power and majesty of nature is seen in all its raw, spellbinding beauty here, an astonishing sight to behold.
