3.16 Triple Whammy - NO Queen - No Brood - Chalkbrood Disease
No Queen:-
When queen rearing, I generally only check for excess honey & relieve the Nuces, until the queen starts to lay - about 30 days time, then check for eggs . . .
For some reason the queen was lost??????
No Brood:-
Because the queen was lost, there was no eggs being laid or brood being developed
Some laying workers can develop ovaries & start laying, producing only infertile eggs which become drones
If this happens the hive is doomed . . .
Chalkbrood Disease:-
This disease rears its head in prolonged wet weather, or when any hive becomes stressed
In the 1980s Literature stated, to re-queen when the disease was found - I tried re-queening a number of times & found it made NO difference- the hives still had the disease . . .
SO-oo, I experimented, with a number of different methods & found that the quickest & best . . .
WAS
Lift (maximum 4 frames at a time) of the diseased brood, above the excluder in a strong honey production hive - the Chalkbrood Disease will be removed by the bees, generally within a few days so that nectar could be replaced in those cells/frames
I have never had the Disease return in any hive where this process was completed
