In this tutorial I walk through some of the useful broken chord exercises you can do on the piano and explain why they can make such a difference to your playing, especially if you're just starting out on the instrument.

Broken chords, also known as arpeggios, are fantastic for improving your touch, control and expressivity as a pianist. Too many pianists - especially self-taught ones - have a really clunky, uneven style that comes from focussing exclusively on getting the notes right and neglecting the musicality and performance aspects of a piece of music.

As well as being handy exercises for improving your piano skills, piano arpeggios and broken chords are incredibly common in piano music, including both classical and pop styles. Learning to arpeggiate smoothly and evenly can really help your playing.

I also mention a couple of up-coming projects, including my collection of seven pop piano studies and the beginners piano course I'm going to start work on this year.
