HOW TO ENGAGE YOUR HORSES BACK AND HIND LEG - Dressage Mastery TV Episode 334
This week, we show you how to ENGAGE YOUR HORSES BACK AND HIND LEGS.... and how that may give you a big fancy trot on any horse!
Engagement is the bending of the hind-leg joints, specifically articulation of the pelvis, stifles, hocks and fetlocks, enabling the horse to shift his weight off his front end and carry more weight behind. For clarity, impulsion is the ability to spring out of engagement. To determine if your horse is engaged, look at the articulation and the activity of the hind end and whether that energy is transmitted through an elastic back toward the bit.
Wessel in this video doesn't naturally have the biggest trot. It is made to look big and fancy by using the Riding Success Training Scale and applying the correct steps of training that allows him to have such an impressive trot :)
In this video you are going to learn the steps that you can start applying to your horse to improve the trot. Keep at it and you'll also be able to have that beautiful big trot.
Make sure you leave a comment with your biggest learning from the episode - we love hearing from you!
