Surgeon Spotlight: Dr. Jason Wink

Dr. Wink, Orthopedic Surgeon and Plastic Surgeon at Penn Medicine, knew from an early age—as he spent time building wooden airplanes with his grandfather—that he wanted to do hands-on work that would physically impact people’s lives.

“There’s nothing better than becoming a doctor and a surgeon,” said Dr. Wink.

The main focus of his work is to develop a practice in upper extremity, hand surgery and general plastic surgery. He returned to Penn after a hand surgery fellowship to serve those three roles.

“I think what makes our division special here at Penn are the people within it. There are few hospitals that have experts in so many different fields and allow them to collaborate on complex problems. People come to Penn because they have issues that require multiple healthcare providers and I think that is where Penn Medicine excels,” said Dr. Wink.

His expertise lies in microsurgery and microvascular surgery. These skill sets are rare and can be technically challenging, yet exciting.

The most rewarding part of his work is to see patients come through a hard time and regain a positive outlook moving forward.
