Here is how to send a direct message (DM) to a private Instagram account without following them using the latest features available in 2024.

Your message will go to their Message Requests folder. The person will need to accept your message request before you can continue the conversation — and they won’t see that you’ve followed them unless you choose to.

Open the Instagram app and tap the search icon
Type the username of the private account you want to message.
Tap on their profile (even if it's locked/private).
Click on the three dots in the top right corner
Select send message from the menu that appears
