A truly classic soul ballad, Delaney & Bonnie covered this great Erma Franklin stunner a year before Janis Joplin and Big Brother took it to the top of the counterculture charts. Recorded for Stax before the group hit the major-label milieu, it was cut with Memphis' finest, (including Booker T. & the M.G.'s). This version has all of the torment and heartbreak of Janis Joplin's version, of course, with the added bonus of Stax's down-home funk. Anyone who enjoyed Joplin's version should take a long listen here.
