NEW 2022 Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition - Interior, Exterior, Price & Specs
New 2022 Toyota Tundra Interior, Exteior, Price, Release Date
Domestic automakers have a monopoly on the full-size pickup truck segment, but the 2022 Toyota Tundra appeals to a slightly different audience, particularly those loyal to Toyota. Most half-ton pickups have a sturdy, albeit antiquated, leaf-spring rear suspension. The Tundra features coil springs out back that make it ride and drive much better than most. Plus, it can still tow up to 12,000 pounds and comes standard with a suite of driver assists. Unlike its domestic rivals, the Tundra isn't available with a V-8. Gasp! The lone engine option is a twin-turbo V-6, but it's available with a hybrid system that's good for 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. With a cabin that's considerably prettier than its predecessor and an infotainment system that offers a 14.0-inch touchscreen, there are numerous reasons the 2022 Tundra has the goods to take on the Americans.
Toyota Racing Development (TRD) joined with Marty Schwerter at the Toyota Motorsports Garage to transform the brand new third-gen 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro into a chase truck called the TRD Desert Chase Tundra. These types of trucks support race vehicles during open-desert racing, and are the unsung heroes of the sport. They are tasked with carrying tons of tools, parts, and recovery gear to assist race vehicles, and they have to be capable enough to reach remote locations should the race vehicle become immobile. A race vehicle is nothing without its chase crew and rig.
It's completely natural to showcase the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro as a chase truck (but honestly, it looks pretty rad close to the ground, too)—and with the extra prep that this Tundra received, it's completely ready to jump in on race day. TRD-designed long-travel suspension (that uses stock mounting points and hardware) was swapped in without any mods, making the truck wider and allowing for harder hits. A wide-body kit out of TRD's North Carolina composite shop looks killer and accommodates the suspension. The wheels are 18-inch forged aluminum Methods (featuring Method's Bead Grip technology for running tires at lower tire pressure), and the tires are 37-inch General Grabber X3s.
To light up the pitch-black desert, the Desert Chase Tundra TRD Pro has Rigid lighting throughout. The roll-bar mounted light bar can be raised or lowered electronically, which reduces wind noise when not in use. Mounted to the roll bar are some off-road chase essentials: an off-road jack, a CO2 bottle, fuel and water containers, two spare tires, and an ARB Tred Pro Recovery Board. The bumpers were developed by TRD to increase protection and the approach angle. Complete Customs laid down the fresh coat of bright white paint, appropriate for hiding desert dirt and keeping the truck cool and visible.
The TRD Desert Chase Tundra concept can be found in Toyota's 2021 SEMA Show exhibit booth in the Central Hall, along with Toyota's other concept builds like Tacozilla.
