Part 16 – Installing Foam Backed Vinyl Headliner - 1974 Sea Ray SRV 240 Weekender Re-build
I finally get to the installation of the foam backed vinyl hull liner (or headliner) in my fiberglass boat using a spray type contact adhesive. I consulted whatever "how to" videos I could find, and then tackled the project. Everything doesn’t go as well as I had hoped, but it’s up there and not falling down!. I have some issues, lots of wrinkles, but it’s still more progress in the rebuild of this old boat…
Installed using 3M "80" spray adhesive/glue. I also attempt to fix (or reduce) some of my mistakes (wrinkles) using a heat gun.
If you're thinking of doing something like this yourself, hopefully you can learn from my mistakes! It was my first try at this material.
Take a look at the “fun” I have in this video, and if you have the time, take a look at some of the earlier videos in this series!
This is part of an ongoing video series about a full restoration/rebuild I am doing on an 1974 Sea Ray SRV 240 Weekender. It's a fibreglass express cruiser/cabin cruiser.
My plan with the boat is to fully rebuild it - the rotten stringers, transom, and floor have already been replaced, and I am currently working on building an all new interior for the cabin. The boat, when finished, will have a small galley (two burner Kenyon alcohol/electric stove, sink, dual voltage Norcold marine fridge), a small head with a Jabsco manual toilet, sink, and shower (wet head).
There will also be room for two to sleep in the V-berth.
