When should students apply for graduate jobs?

stemgraduates.co.uk introduces students to graduate schemes and recent graduates to live jobs. We are often asked when students should begin their graduate jobs search.

Stephen Rooney is the MD of STEM Graduates and has a background in graduate recruitment. He offers advice and guidance in this video.

Stephen discusses how students need to decide whether their focus is on finding a graduate scheme with a large employer or an immediate job with a smaller firm. This is likely to determine when they need to apply for a job.

In general it is better for students to apply in the summer or autumn of their final year if they would like to join a graduate scheme. Students preferring to join a smaller employer in a set job are able to apply later in the year with April and May being likely months to begin researching careers.

It is worth noting that students can improve their job hunt by gaining relevant work skills throughout their degree course.
