The Future of Cash

It has been claimed that in a decade’s time cash will be a thing of the past. Some see this as an opportunity – and not only for well-off early adopters. Thanks to Open Banking and forward-thinking fintechs, they say, we can all reap the benefits of a cashless future. Are they right? Or does the move towards a cashless future threaten to undermine our privacy by allowing spending to be tracked? Should we fight back, by continuing to use cash?

In this video, IEA Director of Communications Annabel Denham is joined by Kevin Dowd, Professor of Economics and Finance at Durham University, and by Sam Dumitriu, Research Director at The Entrepreneurs Network.
