Neonatal Brain CT | Myelination vs Ischemia #shorts

NCCT head in a neonate shows:
👉 Subtle cortical–subcortical hypodensity in left parietal lobe (? ischemic)
👉 Periventricular hyperdensity appearance — likely due to age-related unmyelinated white matter

⚠️ Important concept:
In neonates, white matter appears relatively hypodense, and vessels/structures may appear relatively hyperdense — which can mimic pathology.

Key learning:

* Differentiate normal myelination pattern vs pathology
* Always correlate with clinical history + MRI if needed
