Here I'm sharing the best shopping tips, what to buy, and what Russians love to buy!

I'll show you the prices and translate them into dollars.

I even convinced the lady at the counter to film the checkout process! Enjoy guys!

VOCABULARY

Яблоки – Apples.

Цена за килограмм – price per kilo

Киви – kiwi

По номеру товара – by number of product (по takes Dative Case, so, номер becomes номерУ)

Огурцы, солёные огурцы – Сucumbers, pickled cucumbers

Крупа – grain

Гречка – buckwheat (it’s what Russians love to eat almost every day. It’s for Russians what pasta is for Italians).

Туалетная бумага – toilet paper

Шампунь для волос – shampoo (волосы – hair / волос – genitive plural because of the preposition для which takes always genitive case)

Гель для душа – shower gel

Зубная паста – toothpaste

Зубная нить – dental floss

Прокладки – pads, napkins

Шашлыки – barbecue

Шампур – skewer (Шампура – skewers)

Мангал – brazier, barbecue

Спичка – match (Cпички – matches)

Уголь – charcoal

Пиво – beer

Отличная цена – perfect price

Красная цена – red price, perfect price (basic product)

Соль морская – sea salt

Мягкий знак – soft sign (grammar)

Макароны – pasta

Маслины – black olives

Оливки – green olives

Кукуруза – corn

Икра – caviar (черная икра – black caviar / красная икра – red caviar)

Колбаса – sausage

Конфеты – candies – конфетки (diminutive form)

Зеленый лук – fresh union (лук – just onion..)

Укроп – dill

Петрушка – parsley

Кинза – cilantro, coriander

Зелень – green (this can refer to coriander, parsley, dill, etc. Russians usually add some of this to their soups.

Салат листья – salad leaves

Огурцы свежие – fresh сucumbers

Сметана – sour cream

Печенье – biscuit

Овсяное печенья – oat cookies

Варенье – jam

Малина – raspberries

Черная смородина – black currant

Пельмени – russian dumplings

Добрый день! Пакет вам пригодится? – Good morning, would you like you a bag?

Извините, что? – I beg your pardon.

Пакет вам пригодится? – Would you like a bag?

Пакет не нужен. Спасибо большое. Гречка. – No, it’s OK. Thank you very much.

Карта ленты у вас есть? – Do you have our loyalty card? (Лента is the name of the supermarket – Карта ленты – Genitive Case)

Это что скидочная карта? – What’s that? Do you mean discount card?

Да, это карта на скидку, карта постоянного покупателя. – Yep, this is a discount card, card for loyal customers.

Понятно. Нет, у меня нет карты. – I see. No, I don’t have one.

Может быть вы желаете ее приобрести? Ее стоимость 200 рублей. – Would you like to get one? It costs 200 rubles.

Сколько? – How much?

200 рублей. – 200 rubles

200 рублей, да? В другой раз. Спасибо большое. – 200 rubles? Next time, thank you very much.

Хорошо. А платить будете наличными или картой? – Nice. Are you going to pay cash or card?

Давайте наличными, да. – I guess cash, yep cash.

Без скидки получается 105 рублей, пожалуйста. – Without discount it’s 105 rubles.

Ваши 200. 95 будет ваша сдача. – Your money 200 rubles. 95 is your change.

Спасибо. – Thanks.

Пожалуйста. Сдача, чек. Ждем вас снова. – Please, here you have your change and receipt. Until next time.
