7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Türkiye and Syria - Emergency Appeal Launched

On February 6, a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck southeast Türkiye and bordering Syria, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has quickly allocated 3 million CHF from their Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) to the affected area. An emergency appeal of 200 million CHF has now been launched to support 300,000 people in Türkiye and 300,000 people in Syria. The most urgent needs are healthcare and first aid, food and water, and fuel and excavation equipment in Syria.
