Father Kills Son Over Cheesecake: The Tragic Case of Travis Stackhouse | Lost in Time History

In June 2019, five-year-old Amer Stackhouse was found passed in his home. His father, Travis Stackhouse, initially told police his son had fallen down the stairs. But investigators quickly learned otherwise: Amer’s brother said he saw his father punch Amer—reportedly in the face—with a closed fist. The medical examiner confirmed blunt-force trauma to the abdomen as the cause of passing, a far cry from a tragic accident. Stackhouse later confessed, explaining he was enraged that his child had eaten some of the Father’s Day cheesecake he’d received.

Stackhouse appeared to cry in the courtroom, with officials describing him as a “grieving father.” His defense attorney argued that regardless of guilt, “he is still a grieving father,” and requested a bail reduction so he could attend his own son’s funeral—a plea the judge denied, citing public safety and the severity of the offense.

In May 2021, Stackhouse entered a guilty plea. He received 20 years in prison, followed by eight years of extended supervision. Many in Milwaukee asked: how could a man end his own child over a slice of cake?
