This HUMMINGBIRD has a Spectacular Tail! WATCH HIM DISPLAY!
The Sparkling-tailed Woodstar, also known as the Sparkling-tailed Hummingbird, is a very small hummingbird found in Mexico, Honduras, el Salvador. Guatemala and Nicaragua. It’s dlstinguishing feature is the white patch on each side of the rump of both the male and female.
The male has a long forked tail that is black with white bands and his gorget is blue or bluish purple.
The females are cinnamon below and both have long straight black bills.
These hummingbirds fly very slowly and their wing beats sound like insects. They are trap-liners, meaning they visit a large circuit of flowering plants rather than sitting and guarding one bush.
Several years ago William Orellana was in his garden in Honduras and noticed a male Sparkling-tailed Hummingbird displaying to a female. He took out his phone and captured the only existing video of this incredible performance.
