I have a brick in Kenya | Halmen Balázs | TEDxTârguMureș

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Balázs was volunteering on a small island, called Rusinga in Kenya for 4 months in 2010. He was mainly teaching in a small private school, but beside that he also started to train football for the school children, and writing articles about his adventures.

Balázs was volunteering on a small island, called Rusinga in Kenya for 4 months in 2010. He was mainly teaching in a small private school, but beside that he also started to train football for the school children, and writing articles about his adventures. After returning home, he told his experiences to many friends. Realizing how many people are interested in volunteering and helping, he, with some friends decided to start a project called ‘I have a brick in Kenya’. Through this initiation they are collaborating with a local Kenyan organization helping the vulnerable orphans and widows on this small island. The help is really crucial, since 40 % of the population of Rusinga Island is HIV infected. Balazs will talk about the local education system, how and why they believe that the education is the key to break out from poverty, how you can use the power of football for reaching the problematic youth and children, and how a small organization like theirs can have a great social impact in a vulnerable area.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
