Ablative laser wavelengths target water in the upper layers of skin. This destroys the upper skin cells with laser desiccation & heat, in turn killing off abnormal cells.⁠

The algorithm for low downtime skin rejuvenation in lighter skin types is simple- namely the non-ablative 1927 wavelength. This wavelength is superior IMO for textural change rejuvenation as compared to the 1550, however the later can be useful for acne & traumatic scars.

Scar revision can be initiated early, just as long as acne is under control. As per JAMA guidelines, all revision procedures apart from fully ablative lasers can be sensibly employed when patients are on oral isotretinoin.
