Cultivating a Healthy Community and Business Model | Made in America, Season 3, Ep 3
Native entrepreneur Cherilyn Yazzie tells her story of running a business as a Navajo Nation farmer and how she worked to overcome the droughts of the pandemic. Brought to you by GoDaddy. Watch all episodes of Made in America: https://bit.ly/gdmadeinamerica
When new things are created, there will always be challenges that come along with the growth. Cherilyn Yazzie, Owner of Coffee Pot Farms, knows firsthand the physical, economical and generational barriers she has worked through to be a successful farmer in the desert lands of northern Arizona. With the lack of access to capital and living off-the-grid in the Navajo Nation, everything Cherilyn and her husband Mike do to keep the business running is completely self-sufficient and manually brought in — even water and electricity. From the break of dawn until the night’s end, this dynamic duo works endlessly to tackle their never ending farmer’s checklist, prepare for farmers markets and make other pivots to generate income during the harsh pandemic. While putting in the work to ensure her way of life as an entrepreneur never comes to an end, Cherilyn works even harder to educate the community on the importance of health so the Navajo Nation continues to flourish. After having the opportunity to participate in a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, they have high hopes that their efforts will be fruitful and turn their labor of love into a thriving business.
Stay tuned for episode 4 where we see Dizzie’s and Cherilyn’s progress expanding their business to exciting new heights.
