TESLA MODEL Y OWNER's Review. 5000 Mile Update #Tesla

It has been almost 5 months and 5000 miles since we bought our 2021 Tesla Model Y Performance. Is the Tesla Model Y worth your money? In this video I'll try to answer that question.

Today I'll focus on things that you have brought up in your comments and questions.

Our love for our Model Y hasn't faded away. That doesn't mean that this car is perfect. I believe it has shortcomings but I guess that whatever it does well overshadows its flaws. we got the Full Self Driving Subscription. It's $199 dollars per month and it does make a difference. Is it worth the money? It all depends on your lifestyle. It fits ours as we make a lot of day trips on weekends.
I have tried to use FSD n town but I just don't feel comfortable using it. When sitting at a red light, it just takes that extra split second when the light turns green and sometimes I feel like vehicles get too close around me. I think that real autonomous driving is really far from becoming a reality.
we are loving FSD and I believe it's worth the try since now you don't have to pay $10000 upfront to have it. You can get it as a monthly subscription for 199 dollars and you can cancel anytime.
Black wheels get dirty very easily with brake dust and especially on intricate wheel designs, they are really hard to keep clean. Well, with regenerative braking you do not have that problem as you hardly ever use the brakes therefore you do not create any brake dust. It's such a convenience because the car looks clean longer and of course because of the minimal wear on the actual brake pads.
The front trunk is another feature that you'll love. Especially because remember that the Model Y doesn't come with a privacy cover for the rear cargo area. So the front trunk comes really handy to store valuables.

Range: I haven't charged the Model Y to full capacity in a very long time. So in this video I charge it completely to see how long it takes and to see if it has lost any of its range in the first 5 thousand miles.

Range anxiety: it is real. If you never had an electric car, it will take time for you to get used to its nature. I haven't gotten more than 260 miles of range and that's really pushing it. Tesla claims that the range is 303 but it's not. Having said that, I have learned ways to charge our Model Y in a more efficient way: At least in California, you find supercharger stations everywhere so I have learned not to charge to full capacity. It is a waste of time anyways. The way supercharging works, you can charge to 80 percent fairly quickly, at around 25 minutes on a level 2 charger but the other 20 percent will take just as long so why waste time, especially when you can drive a couple of hundred miles and just charge again for a fraction of the time.

Is the Performance Package worth the premium? It depends! We hardly drive it on Sport Mode anymore. It goes from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. That puts it in the category of very fast performance cars. Most of them, thousands of dollars more expensive. In other words, the Model Y is plenty fast in "Chill Mode". The aesthetic differences are minimal but I still enjoy having them. So it is up to you to decide if you want to pay the premium for the Performance Package. Something else to consider though is the extra bit of range you get from the Long Range Model Y vs The Model Y Performance. So, if we could do it all over again, would we have opted for the Performance package? YES. My wife doesn't agree.

When we first got the Model Y I was considering tinting the sunroof because of how hot it feels in the middle of the day. I haven't done it. Some of you have recommended me removable accessories and that could be an option later.

I haven't had any service calls. one of the perks of having an electric car, in this case a Tesla, is that it requires very minimal maintenance so it doesn't require anything at 5 thousand miles but I went with my friend to a local Tesla Service Center and I was very disappointed with the whole operation. I don't think it is a premium experience at all. I'll leave you the link to that video as well here:

Because of regenerative braking, this car is always either accelerating or braking. Because of it, my guess is that it will go through tires like candy. We will see how these tires hold up later.

We still enjoy our Tesla Model Y Performance very much. We think it was worth the price and we wouldn't do anything differently if we were to do it all over again.
