Helping Fire Department to put out a HUGE fire !

On July 10th 2019 a fire broke out at the Belgian Scrap Terminal in the harbor of Antwerp.

One of our tugboats arrived quickly to assist and put out the fire that was growing larger by the minute.

The first 15 minutes they had no permission to start extinguishing the fire because of safety issues (people were still to close to the fire).

The fire monitors are extremely powerfull with a capacity of 8000L/min or 2113 Gallon/min each and a range of 100+ meters at 16bar.

They are powered by the main engines which have 2100 horsepower combined.

After 15 minutes the fire department gave them permission to engage the fire. Unfortunately they were not able to reach the main fire.

So the fire department decided to use the crane on site to move the burning pile of rubble closer to the tugboats and so putting out the fire.

After 30min a second tug arrived to attack the fire from another angle.

The entire operation took about 3 hours before the fire was under control.
