COLLECTING CLASSICAL - Which format? Vinyl vs. CD/SACD vs. Streaming vs. Downloads

Whether you are just getting started building a classical music collection, or a seasoned collector, there are many ways in which to enjoy the music. Even if you are primarily devoted to vinyl you should consider supplementing your listening and collecting with other formats because otherwise you are going to miss out on a ton of great recordings. The Classical Recording industry is thriving at the moment, largely through the efforts of small independent labels. In this video I break down the options available.

Resources mentioned in video:

David Hurwitz's YouTube channel:

Website: Classics Today (apologies for misremembering the title in my video)
https://www.classicstoday.com

Mr. Hurwitz is a fountain of knowledge on recorded classical music, and his videos will keep you informed and entertained in equal measure. He is a good alternative, indeed corrective, to "establishment" sources like the Gramophone and Fanfare magazines.

Recommended independent classical music labels include:

For historical recordings, I highly recommend Pristine Classical. Their remastering is leagues ahead of the competition.

An excellent resource not only for purchasing classical CDs and downloads but also for reviews is Presto Music in UK. Even factoring in the cost of international shipping they have competitive prices and excellent sales and service.

Another excellent resource for new classical recordings is BBC Radio 3's long-standing weekly broadcast "Record Review". Shows remain available to listen to for 30 days after first broadcast:
