PRRD’s Intervention in the Summit for Democracy (Speech) 12/10/2021

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivers his intervention during the Summit for Democracy via virtual convention on December 10, 2021.

The President conveys his heartfelt gratitude towards the United States for convening the Summit, especially in these times when the world faces great challenges that call for the close examination of democratic institutions for holding fast to the values and principles sworn to uphold.

As the oldest democracy in Asia, the President cites that the Philippines serves as an inspiration of all Asian struggles for independence. While not perfect and still a work-in-progress, the Chief Executive says that the Filipino people are free, and the nation operates under a vibrant democracy, and an open and diverse society.

With the country still recovering from the severe effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Executive vows that no one will be left behind as reforms will be forged during the remaining months of his Presidency. He pledges that the Philippines shall experience an honest, peaceful, credible and free elections come May 2022.
