Lillian Gobitas-Klose (2010) Interview by Phil Donahue/Greg Peterson
On April 30, 2010, television icon Phil Donahue and Greg Peterson, co-founder of the Robert H. Jackson Center, traveled to Atlanta to meet with Lilian Gobitas-Klose. Mrs Gobitas together with her brother were the named parties in what 1940 Supreme Court case Gobitis(sp)v. Minersville (Pa.) which held that mandatory salute of the flag was constitutional. Her Jehovah Witness' beliefs prohibited the practice and she was forced to leave her school The case was overturned by the 1943 Barnette case with majority opinion written by Justice Robert H.
