U.S.-UK-Australia Nuclear Powered Submarine Deal; After India, The Second IOR Navy To Have SSNs

New Delhi: On 'The Gist', Rear Admiral Sudarshan Y. Shrikhande(Retd), Maritime Strategist and Former Head, Naval Intelligence in analysis with StratNews Global Associate Editor Amitabh P. Revi.

Ahead of the 'Quad' in-person Summit and bilaterals between the American, Indian, Australian and Japanese Heads of Government on September 23-24, the U.S., Britain and Australia have announced AUKUS, a security partnership for the Indo-Pacific. Among other strategic cooperation, it will involve Canberra getting nuclear-powered submarines, in the face of the CCP's aggressive behaviour and growing influence over the region. The Gist discusses the ramifications and implications.

Our panellist, Admiral Shrikhande(Retd) has commanded three ships and has been Defence Attaché in Australia and the South Pacific. As a flag officer, among other assignments, he headed Naval Intelligence, has been with Strategic Forces, and Joint Headquarters. In retirement, he teaches several aspects of strategy, operations and is Chief Editor of the 'Naval Despatch'.
