An Amish Barn Raising Pt. 1 Early Arrivals

It's hard to put into words the thrill of watching several hundred Amishmen working side-by-side with their friends and neighbors, accomplishing in a day what would normally take a week. It takes a special kind of teamwork and skill to assemble one of these barns in one day. A type of skill that has been handed down through the generations for hundreds of years. Since the early 1700's the Amish have built hundreds of beautiful productive farms. They virtually invented the American farmstead. Today, the Amish farm areas are viewed as living museums by city dwellers who are drawn to the countryside seeking a dose of calmer, simpler lives, lives most of us have never lived ourselves, but perhaps wish we could.
Watch the ways of another culture and Christian sect that stresses simpler ways of life truly demonstrates the meaning of neighborly love and the joy and fun of practicing their faith and culture. The Amish call a barn raising a frolic. The English definition of for a frolic is to behave playfully, to engage in merrymaking. And merrymaking is to participate in a festive celebration. That's what an Amish barn raising looks like...a festive celebration. This barn raising was originally filmed in 1995 and features an all wood barn with wood side laths instead of sheet metal which has become the norm of today.
