FAMOUS GRAVE - Finding Claude K Bell (Cabazon Dinosaurs) & Other Roadside Attraction Creators

Thanks for joining me on my famous grave tours, as I find and visit the cemeteries, grave sites, memorials and final resting places of the famous (and sometimes infamous) people who are gone, but not forgotten.

In this video tour, I track down and find the--nearly lost to history--grave site of artist and sculptor Claude K. Bell.

After retiring as a portrait artist for Knott's Berry Farm, in Buena Park, California, Bell created the Cabazon Dinosaur roadside attraction in the 1960s and '70s. They were created to attract attention to his Wheel Inn Restaurant, located next to the I10 freeway, in Cabazon, California. The iconic dinosaurs have appeared in movies, such as "Pee Wee Herman’s Big Adventure," TV shows, commercials, books, magazines and Ads since the attraction first opened in 1975.

Bell died at the age of 91 on September 21, 1988 in Anaheim, California. His final resting place was unknown, until I did some investigating, did a bit of grave hunting, and finally found him in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA. I've added a photo of his grave stone and a GPS to his Findagrave.com memorial page.

Also in this video, I ask viewers to help me find the final resting places of the creators of the following three, equally famous, Southern California historic landmarks and roadside attractions:

The Wigwam Motel On Route 66 In San Bernardino, California

This historic landmark was built in 1947, and according to Wikipedia, Frank A. Redford developed the Wigwam Village, which he turned into a chain of hotels, around the country, in the 1930s and '40s. We all leave our mark in different ways. Redford's was certainly memorable and finding his grave site seems long over due. For reservations or additional information, visit their website below.

Tail O' The Pup hotdog stand in Los Angeles (West Hollywood), California

For more than a decade, in the 1980s, I lived in West Hollywood, just a few blocks away from the famous Tail O’ the Pup hot dog stand, shaped like a giant hot dog. It stood on the corner of La Cienega and Beverly boulevards, just a block from the famous Cedar Sinai Hospital. According to its Wikipedia page, it was built in 1946 and was originally owned by the famous dance team of Veloz and Yolanda. I did a Findagrave.com search for their grave sites, and they also do not have memorial pages.

The iconic hot dog stand has appeared in countless movies, television shows and commercials, but was moved to make space for high end condos and the last I heard, the structure is in storage, waiting for a new home.

The novelty building was designed by architect Milton Black, who was also an architect to the stars. Sadly, I was not able to find a Findagrave.com memorial page or grave site for him either.

If anyone watching knows the whereabouts of these roadside attraction creators, please contact me or share in the comments section, so we can visit their graves and honor their lives and famous creations.
