Homemade Chainsaw Milling attachment

In this video I will use the homemade milling attachment that I made for my chainsaw, maybe I should mention I built this without doing any welding. Okay so here's the story behind why i made this video at all. The first thing you need to know is that this video was recorded almost a year ago (26/10/2017 to be exact) & the reson for not uploading it until now is that I couldn't decide if it was good enough, since in a way it was a failure.

Anyway it all started when my new neighbor across the street decided to fell a tree in his garden. I've looked at it several times over the years because I've never seen this kind of tree before (copper beech tree) & when I saw that the tree was laying on the ground I saw my opportunity. So I walked over to my neighbor's garden asking if I could get a piece of the tree & he said yes. I choose the base of the tree because it had the most amount of wood & since there weren't any branches at the base i wouldn't' have to worry about knots in the wood later.

So he sawed it off & later moved the heavy tree across the street into my garden with a small excavator he had. I had the log laying in the garden for several weeks before I had come up with a plan what to do with it. The log was so wide that I had to use the chainsaw from both sides to get thru to the middle so I could split it in half. This took a wile since I wasn't really experienced at this point, but after quite some time of sawing I finally managed to split the log in half. After accomplishing that I decided to turn them over (bark facing up) & put them on top of some wooden blocks to keep the log halves up from the ground. Then I left them alone for some more weeks thinking about what to do now.

I do what I usually do when I don't know how to do something, I go on YouTube of course! I saw this chainsaw milling video that Frank Howarth made (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig_8O4Me0fU) I thought it looked simple enough, so I was going to buy a chainsaw milling attachment. But I couldn't find any good ones shipping within or to Sweden, so I decided to make one myself (I might make a video explaining how I built it & the flaws it had) I'm glad I just had this one log to saw because my homemade milling attachment is awful to use. It takes to much time to get it mounted to the chainsaw & adjusting the height also takes way to too much time.

If that wasn't enough the chainsaw slipped out of the holding clamps when I was using it & the cutting edges of the saw was dull in an instant. This is because the teeth cut straight into the steel bars holing everything together. If you watch when I start cutting you can see that the blade shoots out these long wood strands at first, then it suddenly stops. That's when the chain hit the steel. after that I just got sawdust... I did get a bunch of lumber before I gave up on using this attachment, which you will see in another video some day.

A comment is always appreciated, rate the video so I know what you think & subscribe so you get updated about new videos being released!
