Living Off Grid in the UK – No Plug, No Water, No Backup

Living off grid does not mean solar panels, a hashtag, and a YouTube channel.

In this video, I break down what real off-grid living actually looks like in the UK — and why most people calling themselves “off grid” are still firmly attached to the system.

I’ve been fully off grid for nearly six and a half years.
No electric hookup.
No water hookup.
No driveways.
No safety net.

My van’s engine is blown. The spare is knackered. And yet, my life hasn’t “ended” — because off grid is about thinking smart, saving money, and removing dependency, not pretending everything is perfect.

I talk honestly about:

What off grid actually means (and what it doesn’t)
Why most vanlifers aren’t truly off grid
The myth that you need YouTube to survive in a van
Why I’m going gas-free and cooking entirely on a wood stove
Solar problems, real limitations, and real solutions
Why freedom means hanging it out when things go wrong

If your idea of off grid involves running back to a house the moment something breaks, this video will probably annoy you.

If you want the truth, without filters, sponsors, or fantasy — this one’s for you.

This isn’t vanlife.
This is off grid.
