This was the night that forever changed AEW history…

Believe it or not, this was the actual night that permanently changed AEW history (and pro wrestling as a whole). This was the night of CM Punk’s first televised appearance as AEW World Champion (June 1, 2022), when he took an ill advised dive into the crowd, later followed by an in-ring botch towards the end of his Trios tag match.

Both moments led to him eventually injuring his left foot, which abruptly halted his first championship reign.

Had Punk avoided injury & had a proper summer title run in 2022, would he have eventually finished his feud with MJF? Would he have been able to reinforce his worth to AEW in spite of backstage tensions that hadn’t yet come to light? Would Brawl Out & all of the other altercations that followed suit had ever happened? It’s one of the biggest “what ifs” in wrestling history that’s forever left to the imagination.
