Cardiologist opposes daylight savings for three big reasons
Cardiologist Dr Ross Walker has slammed daylight savings, labelling the practice as “ridiculous”.
Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and Canberra all set their clocks back an hour at 3am on Sunday as daylight savings ended.
Dr Walker outlines the three basic reasons why he is not a fan of daylight savings.
“It’s really ridiculous in terms of travel from New South Wales to Queensland ... I think we should have a consistent timezone all through the year,” Dr Walker said.
“Young parents who have young children ... it’s so hard to get children to sleep when it’s light.
“The most important one comes in my field ... there is a lot studies now to show clearly, for at least the two weeks after the start of daylight savings, there is a marked increase of cardiovascular disease.”
“We already have a big problem with sleep regularity around the world, why make it worse with daylight savings.”
