Why did firefighters use Dalmatians?

The Dalmatians are a very interesting dog breed. With their dotted skin and bad hearing, one has to wonder why firefighters used them. If you wonder that as well - you're in for a treat. This has turned out to be way more interesting than we thought. And there's a lot of images online. We highly encourage you to google these stuff and find out more about the early firefighters.
