What are human rights? ("Have You Got That Right?" Ep. 1)
Have You Got That Right? is a series of fun videos explaining human rights quickly, clearly and in a way that won't put you to sleep.
Series 1, Episode 1 looks at what human rights are, and explains the concept of this new series of videos. It features a guest voice over from Australian comedian and actor Stephen Curry (and thanks so much to Steve for his pro bono contribution).
There are plenty of things we need in this world. We’re talking about the things we need to live a dignified life. We’re talking about human rights. These are the rights we’re born with, no matter who you are or where you come from. Every person has them. Human rights are recognised in international law. They’re listed in a bunch of UN documents. And many countries have their own laws to protect human rights
So what are these rights?
Many of us know there is a human right to food, shelter, security, expression and more.
But what about a right to a healthy environment, to marriage equality, to asylum? Are these human rights?
In this series we’ll explain human rights law quickly, clearly, and in a way that won’t put you to sleep. So watch on, and ask yourself – have you got that right?
