This week's video is showing you how we updated our kitchen on a budget. We painted the cabinets, applied fablon to the worktops/counter tops and applied 3D self-adhesive tiles to completely transform our kitchen!

When we moved into the house the kitchen was very dated. This is what it looked like. So very quickly we gave it a bit of a makeover. So we created this by simply using cupboard paint, tile paint and also some fablon to cover the work top. That was going back a couple of years now so we just wanted to freshen it up, but the only difference is this time we're going to be using these self-adhesive 3D wall tiles from Tic Tac Tiles. All you have to do with these is just wipe down your tiles, peel them off and then just stick them on. You can get them from Amazon and you can choose the colour, you can choose the style and you can even choose the colour of the grouting so I will put the link in the description box below. So this is what they look like out of the pack. So we opted for white tiles, with white grouting and a gloss finish. So here are two of the stickers alongside each other. So as you can see if I was to place one on the wall the other one would just kind of slot on top of it and you wouldn't be able to see this white part here. Last week we updated this space here. This is the dining area. We really like the colour that we used on the wall so we've decided to use that colour on the kitchen cabinets. So we began by taking the handles off the doors and the drawers and then we just applied the paint by using a gloss roller and a paint brush for any of the areas where the roller can't reach. If you were doing this for the first time I would probably recommend removing the doors completely. This is what we did the first time that we painted the cabinets just because it was a darker colour that we were covering. So the paint that we’re using is obviously left over from the paint that we got for the kitchen wall. This is a mid-sheen paint and specifically made for kitchens and bathrooms. This means that it will be able to with stand the moisture in the air and also it's easily wipeable. However if this is the first time that you're doing this to your kitchen I would definitely recommend using cupboard paint. So once the first coat is dry we then give it a second coat. Depending on what colour your cupboards were beforehand you might need to give it another coat. Ours was obviously light so we only needed to give it two. Once they were all dry we then put the handles back on and as you can see it is a really nice light grey colour. After this we then applied our fablon and this is what we opted for. It is a white wood effect fablon. So fablon is great to use for your kitchen worktops because it can with stand up to 85 degrees. It's also really easy to clean. As I said before we had our last bit of fablon for over 2 years and it still looks just as good as new so it does last. Also because it's so cheap you can change up your kitchen worktops as often as you want. Just like the tiles that were going to be applying, the fablon is very similar. It acts as a sticker. All you need to do is measure your workshop, cut it to size, apply it and trim around the edges if you need to. So when applying with fablon we use this tool here. This allowed us to press it down really hard so that we didn't get any bubbles underneath. Once the fablon was already in place, we then started to put up the wall tiles. This is what they look like on the wall. I think they look really effective. I was really surprised at how great they actually turned out. So what I will do is show you how easy they were to apply. As I said before, you can find the link in the description box below. As you can see they’re really easy to cut to size as well, either with a Stanley knife or some scissors. And this is them all up on the wall and I'm really, really impressed with how effective they look and how realistic they look as well. It just brightened the space up so much more and made it look so much more modern. Another thing we really wanted in our kitchen were down lights and so I went on to Amazon and I actually found these which are portable down lights.
