Want to descend in slow flight? Most students push the nose first, and the aircraft just speeds up.

In slow flight, you’re already near the back of the drag curve, so managing energy is key. Reducing power first helps prevent unwanted acceleration, then pitch is used to control the speed.

This is also why on final approach, power often controls your descent, while pitch controls your airspeed.
