The Pygmy musical scale was among the first to be adapted on the Hang and it has justifiably remained an all-time favorite. In the words of my friend Aaron Ximm, Pygmy is “a dark mysterious minor, with a slightly exotic yearning quality and enough dissonance to be forever interesting”.

Did you know? Pygmies are nomadic hunter-gatherers living in the equatorial rainforest of Central Africa. They communicate with song far more than we do. In fact, music permeates their daily life. How inspiring! In a way, that's my hope for the Halo too, that it would help us to reconnect with sound-making daily - perhaps now more than ever.

We have opened 20 spots for 'B Pygmy' Production Halos to be built and shipped over the next few weeks. These Halos will be made on our original 23” size and feature our renewed Apex. Check out the new B Pygmy Halos in the online store!

We’re also introducing a brand new African Pygmy-themed laser etch (and matching t-shirt) which features a geometrically-pleasing pattern inspired by a Pygmy art form called barkcloth (hand-beaten tree-bark) used by the Mbuti tribe for dances and ceremonies.
