Preseason Archery Practice for Traditional Bow Hunters

Archery Hunting season is just around the corner and now is the time to start some serious practice. Here, Clay Hayes gives a few tips for preseason practice that will help you be more successful this hunting season.

One important point is to try to mimic realistic hunting situations as closely as possible during practice. Wearing a back pack, binoculars, or other accessories that you'll have on while hunting helps to point out any potential problems with string clearance or shooting before the season.

Hiking and shooting from different positions, up hill shots, down hill, shooting under branches, kneeling, etc. Practice from every conceivable angle you can.

Practicing with broadheads can also be important. Just make sure you shoot at a different spot each time to avoid busting your nocks in an unexpected robin hood!

One last exercise is to prepare yourself mentally for close encounters with elk or other big game. Run different situations trough your mind and imagine yourself in that situation. Once you play through the whole thing in your head, go ahead and make the shot just like it's the only shot in the world that matters.
