The Mothers of Flatbush: The Real Experts on Gun Violence | #BHeard Docs: The Damage Done
Every victim of gun violence was someone’s child, and many left loved ones who never imagined losing a son or daughter this way. So how do you deal with the grief of losing a child to bullets and how do you heal? And what if your child’s case is still unsolved and their shooter is still free and roaming the streets of New York City?
In this film, we travel to a church basement in Flatbush, Brooklyn, and meet a group of mothers who come together for grief support and healing. We spend the day with Natasha, a young mother who has turned her grief and anger into activism, all the while searching for the person who shot and killed her 13-year-old son Akeal. Finally, we meet Pamela, a mother who lost both her sons to gun violence. Pamela tries to balance her work, her family, and her faith as she struggles to make sense of her reordered world.
