Pancreatic Enzyme Insufficiency, Replacement Therapy & Nutrition
The pancreas is critical for digestion of food/ absorption of nutrients, so when pancreatic cancer is compromising the organ’s function, pancreatic enzyme insufficiency can occur. Most cancers are associated with weight loss, so the additional burden posed by a reduction in digestive enzyme production amplifies this symptom for pancreatic cancer patients and the lower nutritional intake reduces their body’s ability to tolerate aggressive treatment or fight the disease. Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy replenishes the important enzymes that the pancreas is unable to produce efficiently. This session will educate participants on current best practices involving pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy and highlight its impact on improving patient outcomes.
