Hope - A Patient's Perspective with Sandy Robis NPC2021
Sandy Robis passionately believes that successful outcomes come from hope, positivity, empowerment and determination. Since her initial Stage 3 pancreatic cancer diagnosis in December of 2018, Sandy's journey has included surgery followed by 12 treatments of chemotherapy which enabled her to remain cancer-free for two years with an excellent quality of life.
That was until December 2020, when she became Stage 4 with metastases to her liver and surgical bed so back on chemo she went. Well, it did its job by plummeting her CA19-9 tumour biomarker to within normal range and her scan again revealing No Evidence of Disease (NED).
Sandy attributes her success to gaining deep knowledge on her disease so as a patient she could make the best, most informed decisions, remaining optimistic regardless of obstacles and relentless, strong self-advocacy. But it doesn't stop there, Sandy's mission is to help others from around the world with pancreatic cancer adopt a similar approach and attitude filled with hope and enthusiasm to fight the fight and NEGU (Never Ever Give Up). Six months prior to Sandy's diagnosis, in June of 2018, she took early retirement from IBM Canada Ltd. where she was in sales and fortunate enough to travel the globe.
Sandy is single and lives in Burlington, Ontario where she enjoys travelling, gardening, interior decorating, cooking her favourite Greek dishes and spending time with family and friends.
