The New Digital pH Meter

So, last month I finally broke down and ordered one of those digital pH meters. After the loss of those beautiful koi I just can't be so free with my water quality. With that in mind it's time to calibrate this thing and find out just how bad my pH levels really are.
Since the only known pH value liquid in the house was white vinegar I decided that would be just fine to use to set things up. With a quick twist of the supplied toy screwdriver this little pH pen was ready to go. Vinegar 2.4 ... check.
Now to test the water from the two garden systems ...
First was the no power aquaponic garden and I'm a little shocked those fish are still alive. At best that water ranked a 4.9 in the second test and the first test wasn't quite so nice ....
Next we have the sled bed aquaponic garden with the pump running 24 hours a day and about 20x the number of fish. While this tank also read below an ideal mark it was a solid 6 so that's not anywhere near as bad!
Clearly I need to do something to adjust the pH levels in those aquaponic gardens but since I want to keep things as simple as I can, I'm gonna need to do a little bit of research. I've heard driftwood can be used to help with pH issues and I think I saw a video a few days ago suggesting that biochar would raise the pH in a garden so there might be something to one of those options. Let me know what you think, I'm always interested in what my viewers may have to say on any of these videos I share!
