(29 Aug 2018) ARETHA FRANKLIN'S SORORITY SISTERS PAY TRIBUTE TO THE QUEEN OF SOUL
Aretha Franklin's sorority sisters paid tribute to the late queen of soul in a special ceremony on Tuesday night in Detroit.
Delta Sigma Theta held their traditional Omega Omega service on the first night of public visitation. Franklin, who was inducted into Delta Sigma Theta as an honorary member in 1992, was remembered for her regal presence and love of her community.
A sea of women wearing black, many with purple corsages and pearl necklaces, saluted Franklin with songs, scripture and words. The ceremony in the Ford Motor Rotunda of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History brought in an overflow crowd of more than 1,000 people, including Franklin's family seated in the center.
Franklin died Aug. 16 and will be laid to rest on Friday after several days of tributes in Detroit.
