Putnam City North Rolls to a 56-6 Win Over Putnam City West
The Putnam North Panthers and Putnam West Patriots met for the 43rd time Friday night at Putnam City West Stadium in Oklahoma City. PC North with a record of 1-1 coming into the game owned a 27-15 edge in the rivalry over 0-2 PC West.
The game was scoreless through most of the first quarter. The Panthers scored first on a four play 53 yard drive that was capped by a 10 yard touchdown run by Amaurion Norment. PC North led 7-0 with 2:40 left in the first quarter.
PC West got the second quarter going with a turnover and a quick score. It started when Sylis Edwards intercepted a Carson Laverty pass at the PC North 39 yard line. On the next play, wide receiver and Baylor commit Corey Gordon took the snap and picked his way through the Panthers and broke into the endzone for a 37 yard Patriot touchdown. PC North’s Phil Jackson blocked the extra point attempt. PC North led 7-6 just 53 seconds into the second quarter.
Then PC North took charge of the game. Two possessions later PC North was at the PC West 33 yard line. Norment took the pitch from quarterback Carson Laverty and was bottled up by Patriot defenders. But he spun his way out of their grasp and ran 33 yards for the score to put PC North up 14-7 at the 5:15 mark of the second quarter. On the next Panther possession, Norment scored again, this time from the 4. The Panther lead was 21-7 with 1:31 left in the half. On the next possession, PC North’s Phil Jackson blocked a PC West punt. Destin Laye picked it out of the air and scored from just 5 yards out. Putnam City North led 28-6 at the half.
Difficulty with the second half kickoff left Putnam City North at their own 2 yard line to begin the second quarter. But the Panthers quickly marched down the field scoring on a 29 yard pass from Carson Laverty to Haydn Thornton making the score 35-6. PC North scored again on a 13 yard run by quarterback Carson Laverty and a 48 yard pick six interception return by Destin Laye to lead 49-6 after three quarters.
Sophomore Camarion Jones finished off the scoring with a 9 yard that made the final score Putnam City North 56, Putnam City West 6. PC North senior running back Amaurion Norment was the Ford Player of the Game. Putnam City North extends their series lead to 28-15 and moves their record to 2-1 going in to district play next week. Putnam City West falls to 0-3.
