Hinduism: Understanding the Guru

The 'Guru' has been an abused term which has infiltrated various parts of western culture.
But in truth, the Guru is one who removes ignorance, and is therefore somebody who is venerated and honoured.
Spiritual Masters have often suffered, from a deep sentiment of suspicion and contempt, some of which maybe justified.
But Hindus should remember that Sanathana Dharma rests on the experience and guidance of the saints and Masters. The concepts of Divine realisation and higher consciousness only have credibility because of the Masters who have embodied it.
