Hinduism: Initiation Vs Conversion What is the Difference?
People who adopt Hindu practices are often branded as a convert. But conversion is a western term which has emerged from the Abrahamic faiths. Unlike these religions Hindu tradition does not have a doctrine which claims exclusivity of Truth, so there is no such thing as conversion. It does however have multiple pathways which lead to transcendence. Initiation is the formal commitment to one of these pathways. It is not about a Hindu avoiding damnation, or seeing their way as the only way to Truth, it is about choosing one methodology which allows them to go deep. This video highlights the key theological differences which define whether somebody is getting initiated or converted.
