Google has been having a difficult time managing its Search product over the last 10 years or so. The company was caught on its back when Microsoft integrated ChatGPT into Bing and Google has continued to push away its small content creators. . .even when they are the ones powering the new AI Overviews feature.

Honestly, I'm getting really close to just switching to either Bing or DuckDuckGo as they are able to provide a comparable service without the headaches of botched Helpful Content Updates, stealing human-created content to power its AI Overview launch (which was previously called Search Generative Experience), and ruining the first page results of their Search Engine.

So as of right now, we sadly do not have the ability to disable AI Overviews for all of our web searches on Google.
The company used to have a toggle within the Search Labs page where we could prevent them from showing up.

But after Google I/O and after the rebranding to AI Overview, this simply does not work with the new launch.

However, we can avoid them by tapping a filter button after a web search has been performed.
And this works to avoid both AI Overview answers as well as those expansive Knowledge Graph cards.

We can do this by performing a web search just like we normally would.
Except after that page loads, we want to scroll through this row of filters up here
And then select the Web filter.

What we see from this page is more familiar to those of us who have been using Google for 10 years or more.
Give it a shot and compare the results page to what we see by default.
Google has been trying to enhance its search page for many years now and it's resulted in a cluttered, overly complex jumble of sections from the new AI Overview summary, to knowledge graph cards, and the expansion of ad links as well.

Google's search result page used to be very clean, like this, but has slowly started to get bloated.

I am looking for ways that we can default our Google searches to this new web filter.
I would like to think that if I can figure this out on Android and on the desktop, then I may end up continuing to use Google as my go-to search engine.

I have found a way that this can be done on the desktop, but the Android version of Chrome seems to be missing those features in the Settings area.

Let me know if you'd like to see that tutorial for the desktop version of Chrome, here on the channel, even though it isn't Android specific.

I've also been thinking about switching from Chrome to Firefox as well. Which may make it easier to default to Web filter searches on Google from there instead of Chrome.
