Remember that the goal is to be on point with your nutrition *most* of the time - not ALL of the time.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Dietary perfection is flat out impossible for almost everyone, and striving for perfection will only stress you out and increase the chances that you'll burn out and quit in the long run.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Short term calorie spikes are completely normal and happen to everyone here and there.⁣
⁣⁣
Don't use this as an excuse to consistently over-eat, but just be aware that if things don't go as planned on a particular day or set of days, it's really not a big deal if things are otherwise reasonably dialed in overall.

As one example, let's say you were cutting on 2200 calories and this represented a 500 calorie deficit for you.⁣

One day some friends invite you out for food and a few drinks and you end up consuming 3700 calories as opposed to your planned 2200.⁣

A lot of people would freak out over this and feel super guilty thinking their progress has now been significantly halted.⁣

In reality you ate 1000 calories over maintenance, which is a bit less than one third a pound of fat.

(It’s not going to be precise like this but it's just an estimate - plus if you have a training stimulus in place then a small portion of it would go toward muscle gain as well)

If you get back on your regular diet the next day, it'll take two days and you'll be right back to square one, and by day three you're back to progressing forward again.⁣

No big deal.⁣

Don't think of fat loss as a straight linear process but rather as something that will ebb and flow.⁣

There's nothing inherently special about "one day" as a unit of time.

The point is to maintain a net calorie deficit *on average* from week to week and month to month - not to keep things 100% perfect during every block of 24 hours.⁣
